This past weekend was eventful. Saturday my cousin who moved down here with me from Dallas graduated from college. It seems like yesterday that he came down here, not knowing what he wanted to major in, on a will and a prayer. People wrote him off, said he couldn't do it because he was ADHD growing up, had some issues here and there (but what teen doesn't??). It took a whole lot of learning for him and prayer from everyone else but he did it. Graduated with a double major (Finance, Business) and a minor (Economics) -- did it with HONORS and he's a member of Omega Psi Phi. The child worked 2 jobs for the first two years he was here even though I told him not to worry about it. He took on life and showed people -- even his own family -- that he was somebody and that he could do something better with himself. He's always maintained that living from pillar to post was not the thing for him.
Of course with him graduating this weekend and this being one of those big family events, people came in to town from everywhere. Even my uncle from Florida who really doesn't like us. My family NEVER seems to disappoint me! We're getting dressed Saturday morninig, and they're already "popping bottles." Now my family, everyone doesn't have a whole bunch of money, but we believe in popping a few bottles of that good stuff when we have big events like this. We get to the graduation and we're DEEP. We had like half of a whole section with just us, it was beautiful. We don't always get along but when it time to support one another, we always come through. Somehow they got my Granny's youngest brother to travel down and he was sitting at the graduation, DRUNK at 11 in the morning. He was telling random strangers "dats muh nafew" and trying to point him out. It was such an embarrassing, yet funny, site to see.
After the graduation, it was party time. We didn't do ours on Saturday, we waited until Sunday. He needed Saturday to go kick it with the Bruhs, hang out with other friends and that's understandable. We did take him out to eat (partly b/c the drunk uncle was giving everyone grief about how hungry he was) and his mom pitched the biggest hissy fit I've ever seen!! She wanted this baby to walk around ALL DAY with his cap, gown and cords on lmao. He was just begging and pleading but I understand her excitement. She's been shouting since December (think I'm lying, I'll try to upload the Christmas vid.).
My cousin and I were talking last night and he's def. wanting to go to graduate school and the only thing I can say is YES YOU CAN. He was one of those people who hated school, he was skipping an awful lot and when he was in there, he wasn't paying attention. Now he knows the importance of that edumacation and how it's the foundation to all things in life. His story is a perfect example of hater blocking.
This song was played all day on Saturday:
