Church Etiquette

"Come as you are."

Yeah, we all get that but sometimes the way you are can stand a clean up. To come as you are is to show up, body mind and spirit the way you are. You don't have to take on another persona to be in church, you don't have to act a certain way, etc. That's what's in your body. What you put on it is something totally different. I am not trying to judge anyone and I definately don't want to come off as "holier than thou" but come on people, WE have to get it together.

Ladies, I think we're the biggest offenders. The length of the skirt/dress should be the first thing you think about while you're getting dressed. Remember in school, we had the "finger tip rule"? Put that use when walking into the house of the Lord. When you put your arms down and your finger tips pass the hem of your skirt or dress, it's too short. If you have to constantly keep tugging on it to pull it down a little bit, it's too short.

The fit should be the second thing. If you're looking in the mirror and you can see perfect prints of everything, it's too tight. If you can barely walk, putting one foot in front of the other, it's too tight. If you can't sit down to put on your shoes, it's too tight. If you have to walk and sit with your breath held because if you let it out your zipper is gonna pop, it's too tight.

Along with the length and fit, the style is the third most important thing. Halter and tube top dresses are not appropriate for church without a cardigan, shrug or cropped jacket. No matter what the weather is on the outside, have some respect for His house and cover up a little. When you step outside, take the cardigan or shrug or jacket off but no one wants to see your open back at church.

Besides that, the tops that some of us wear!!! Oh God, I don't know where to begin. Halter tops, tube tops and message t-shirts with "hi hater" or "naughty girl" on the front is not appropriate. No excuses, no explanations, it's just not appropriate.

Guys, pull your pants up and get a freaking belt! I don't want to look up and see you standing or sitting in front of me with your boxers showing. When walking around for offering or up to the altar during altar call, you shouldn't have to pull up your pants and walk gap-legged. I know "sagging pants" is a hot trend (one that should die) but there's a time and a place for it. If you must, buy you a few pair of pants that fit your waist to wear to church. You don't realize how tacky and lazy you look. Also, tuck that shirt in. Look like you care.

That's it. Just wanna help yall out because it's ridiculous. Don't pull out your club clothes to attend church in. Look like you take pride in your appearance.
